President and CEO Position Job Overview The President and CEO ensures that the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. uses its human, material, and financial resources to make progress toward the achievement of its mission, goals, and objectives by managing the resources effectively, and ensures that the Agency discharges its contractual, financial, and legal obligations effectively, and maintains responsibility for the protection of the assets of the Agency. Additional Responsibilities Include The President and CEO will be responsible for overall management of the Agency to include program administration and coordination and managerial leadership, actively promotes the Urban League Movement and new directions internally and externally by continuing our strong Civil Rights leadership tradition, represents the Agency as an affiliate of the National Urban League movement and a member agency of the United Way of Greater St. Louis; executes the board approved strategic plan using all available resources, formulates policy and planning recommendations, Decides or guides courses of action in operations by staff. Monitors results and advises of needed additions to the strategic plan when appropriate in response to changing environments; supports and conducts administration for the Board of Directors, informing board members of the current status of the organization as well as advising members on preferred strategies and resolutions. Recruits volunteer leaders in the community to participate on the Agencys boards and committees; leads and oversees fundraising planning and implementation; identifies resource requirements, researches funding sources, establishes strategies to approach funders, including new contract development, existing contract relationship management, and major planned giving initiatives; Recommends yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manages organization resources within the budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations. Ensures adequate financial controls are employed to maintain and protect financial resources at all times; assures the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong positive image relevant to stakeholders; maintains a position of leadership and consistent positive presence throughout the Urban League Movement. Develops and maintains positive relationships and open lines of communication with executive directors of other United Way member agencies; Manages the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations; Maintains existing relationships with community groups; exhibits the highest ethical standards as a leader and executive consistent with the organizations code of ethics, and performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Qualifications Applicants for the position of President/CEO should hold a bachelors degree (masters degree preferred) in business administration, social work, public administration or an appropriate discipline, with a proven track record of leadership and management in community-based organizations with at least five years of senior non-profit or for-profit management experience. This should include experience in the development and implementation of social service programs, program evaluation, advocacy, public education, fiscal management, strategic planning, resource development, board and volunteer relations, community mobilization and collaboration, and personnel management. Additional qualifications include excellent organizational and communications skills, grant/proposal writing experience, and government/community relations experience.
