Responsibilities: Executive Director New England Local SAG-AFTRA is a national labor union representing more than 165,000 professional actors, performers, broadcasters, and recording artists working in the entertainment and news media. The New England Local administers the contract affairs for approximately 1,500 members in the New England states. Our representation includes performers in studio and independent theatrical motion pictures; broadcast, public and cable television programs including prime time, daytime dramas, variety shows, and television news and sports; hosted and news radio programs; television, radio commercials, educational and training videos; sound recordings including CDs, singles, albums and cast recordings; interactive video games, and digital new media on the Internet, mobile and other emerging platforms. SAG-AFTRA is dedicated to strengthening the collective power and dignity of our members through strong representation and organizing union work opportunities. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Local Executive Director is the chief executive for the SAG-AFTRA New England Local. Under direction of the Associate National Executive Director and the Locals Board of Directors, this person is responsible for administering the business affairs of the New England Local, including the policies and programs adopted by the Locals Board of Directors in conjunction with SAG-AFTRAs national strategies and policies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES -and-amp; RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversight and management of all aspects of the SAG-AFTRA Local operations, including budgeting, compliance with internal union governance procedures, member outreach and local communications, local organizing initiatives, and administration and enforcement of the free-lance or broadcast contracts under which local members work. Leads and/or supports negotiations of Local collective bargaining agreements. Provides enforcement for all local and national collective bargaining agreements. Resolves complex issues and disputes with performers, agents and studio/producer representatives, including attorneys and business affairs people. Serves as liaison to all relevant member committees, either directly or through supervision of appropriate staff. Actively manages internal decision-making processes to ensure timeliness and maximize consensus. Oversees administration and local organizing of Unions contracts covering staff members working at television or radio stations and freelance performers employed in commercials, feature and independent films, corporate-educational programs, interactive games, television/radio programming, sound recordings and other work that may be covered by SAG-AFTRA contracts. Establishes and maintains regular communications with SAG-AFTRA members including outreach, print and email communications, and training and guidance. Works closely with Local Board to develop and carry out internal and external organizing efforts. Develops and maintains SAG-AFTRAs relationships with industry stakeholders and strategic partners in the Locals jurisdiction, including SAG-AFTRA members and staff, member representatives, news and sports directors, station managers, program directors, producers, entertainment unions, local and state elected officials, labor and community organizations (e.g., state and local affiliates of the AFL-CIO)and other organizations. Leads, assigns or otherwise take part in legislative advocacy efforts in connection with the states film tax credit program and other legislative matters that may affect SAG-AFTRA members. Supervises, manages and participates in the assessment of work performance of all Local staff. Attracts and retains committed, results-oriented staff through personal engagement, supervision, training and development. Ensures Local office compliance with all human resources and organizational policies. Promotes a culture of excellence and collaboration within the New England Local office. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS -and-amp; ABILITIES: Advanced level of management experience and demonstrated leadership skills required to effectively manage and develop team and individual contributors. Exceptional oral and written communication skills in order to explain complex subject matter, promote collaboration and teamwork, build consensus, and persuade others Demonstrated negotiation and/or collective bargaining skills and fundamental knowledge of federal labor law. Responsible; self-directed; pro-active; excellent follow-through. Effective problem solver. Able to mediate disputes and negotiate with tact and diplomacy. Superlative interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact. Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or per week, including weekends and holidays, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs. Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience: Undergraduate degree in relevant field from an accredited college/university and five years applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in labor negotiations, labor organizations, union organizing, or non-profit administration. Knowledge of entertainment and/or news and broadcast industry, as well as issues affecting creative artists and professional workers, strongly preferred. 5 -7 years management/supervisory experience.
