Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of this position are: manage all projects within one or more programs; ensure all facets of software development initiatives are performed; analyze and report on the interdependencies and risks between programs; and manage project managers working on projects within the portfolio. Projects include new software product development and implementation and integration of third party applications. Escalation and coordination point for the project management issues from local and offshore groups. May manage project managers and senior project managers outside the portfolio. Must have experience with Agile methodologies. Leadership and Management - 50% - Provides overarching view of a portfolio of programs (multiple projects in each), including combined risks, issues, schedules and relationship of one program or project to other programs or projects; - Manages, mentors and trains project managers and senior project managers; - Strong partnership with product management to execute portfolio based on product vision; - Coordinates and resolves issues escalated from the offshore development group; - Coordinates and resolves issues escalated from projects in the portfolio; - Participates in, and helps resolve, any resourcing, sequencing and scheduling issues for roadmaps within the portfolio; - Facilitates project approval process with management, project documents and other related materials; - Manages internal client expectations; - Creates and maintains relationships across the organization; - Works with team leaders to manage both dedicated and matrixed resources; Process 15% - Recommends and implements process improvements within the PMO; - Researches and assists with training of software development and project management methodologies; Portfolio/Project Management and Analysis - 35% - Performs portfolio analysis on projects including risk analysis, prioritization, conflict resolution and coaching; - Maintains project schedules and costs across portfolio of projects; - Tracks all project/portfolio costs and provides input for ROI; - Organizes, conducts, and attends meetings with project managers, product managers and key stakeholders to create portfolio project plan parameters by defining clear, attainable objectives and milestones; - Determines integrated milestones, and what will be needed to meet milestone (time, materials, etc.), the scope of combined projects and how the scopes fit into milestone timelines; - Creates tasks, work with project teams to determine and refine estimates based on departmental abilities and constraints; - Authors, maintains, and applies detailed portfolio project plans to support software development, hardware installations, and a variety of integration projects; - Ensures all appropriate groups are included in project planning and advised of project progress; - Ensures any hardware and/or software needed for projects and/or portfolios are secured; - Performs risk analysis for portfolio of projects; - Provides detailed weekly status reports on all active projects within a portfolio; - Other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelors Degree and ten plus (10 ) + years of project management experience in software development. Minimum of 2 years portfolio management or software development program management experience. Project management experience relevant to agile and full life-cycle software development, implementing IT projects, and managing related integration projects required.
