Position Details Department 032001 - Development - BC Law School Advancement Position: - Associate Director, Major Giving, BC Law School Grade or Band: 3rd Senior Associate Director, Band 3, FY13 Hiring Salary Range: $86,000-$107,500 Associate Director, Band 3;FY13 Hiring Salary Ranges:$69,920-$83,650 or $76,400-$95,500 Title and salary depend on a combination of education and experience. Job Description The Associate or Senior Associate Director, Major Giving, Boston College Law School reports to the Executive Director, Advancement and Associate Dean, Boston College Law School and is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals who are capable of making gifts of $100,000 to $999,999, including transformational gifts at the multi-million dollar level in support of the University's capital campaign. The Associate or Senior Associate Director manages a portfolio of 200 or more donors and prospects and is expected to meet specific goals for contacts and completed solicitations within the context of a major Capital Campaign. To be successful in meeting those goals, Associate or Senior Associate Director is expected to devise strategies for guiding the relationship and for the ultimate solicitation of prospects. He/she must possess the seniority of experience and a level of familiarity with current legal and business issues and developments which enables a successful approach to the managing partners of national law firms, chief executive officers and general counsel of major corporations, and to respond knowledgably to their inquiries about the Law School's Strategic Plan and the thinking of the Dean and the faculty of the Law School. The Associate or Senior Associate Director also recruits and supports volunteers who may be helpful with any phase of the fund-raising process, works closely with faculty and administrators of the Law School in developing and articulating gift opportunities that further the mission and aspirations of the School, and writes effective solicitation letters and proposals as required. The Associate or Senior Associate Director must possesses the requisite level of expertise in the area of planned gifts to enable skillful conversation with prospects on this topic and to recognize opportunities where a planned gift may be advantageous to both the donor and the Law School. The Associate Director is a senior member of the staff of the Boston College Law School fundraising team and is expected to participate actively and supportively in the overall objectives of the team, working collaboratively with peers in other fundraising units including Gift Planning, Athletics, School Relations and Organizational Giving to maximize fundraising productivity, provides staff support for volunteer committees as assigned and develops productive working relationships with key volunteers. Requirements - Bachelor's degree or higher and for the first level Associate Director - A minimum of 1-3 years directly related experience successfully closing gifts of $50,000 or more - for the second level Associate Director, a minimum of 3-5 years directly related fundraising experience successfully closing gifts of $50,000 to $100,000 - for the Senior Associate Director, a minimum of 5-7 years directly related fundraising experience successfully closing gifts of $100,000 or more - all levels preferably performed in a complex higher education environment - To accomplish the goals of this position, travel and some evening and weekend work is required to be successful and a valid Massachusetts driver's license is required - A demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively about higher education and the Jesuit tradition is expected - Proficiency with technology and relevant software applications, such as e-mail, MSWord, MS Excel, and PowerPoint is also expected - Must be a mature team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education - a commitment to Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College are critical. - The successful candidate must be able to establish and balance priorities and meet deadlines in an environment of high expectations and have the personal presence, demeanor, sophistication and maturity to inspire comfort and confidence in the several business and professional constituencies with whom the Associate or Senior Associate Director works regularly. Preferences: - Experience in closing seven-figure gifts is desirable - a Law degree and legal practice experience while not essential is valuable.
